FROM NY TIMES: Retiring from General Motors means having to shop for new health insurance and learning that your cars don’t automatically fuel and wash themselves.
So said Robert A. Lutz, the 78-year-old ex-Marine fighter pilot who was G.M.’s product guru until stepping down a few weeks ago.
And unlike several other times that he has announced his retirement, only to change his mind or resurface elsewhere in Detroit, Mr. Lutz promised that he was done for good.
G.M., apparently taking Mr. Lutz at his word, threw him two sendoff parties on Tuesday, one at the automaker’s downtown Detroit headquarters and another at the suburban technical center where he oversaw the development of some of G.M.’s most popular new vehicles in recent years. MORE»
