FROM THE DETROIT NEWS: President Barack Obama overstated the impact of new tailpipe emissions standards by at least 8 million vehicles.
Because of a math mistake by the Environmental Protection Agency, Obama said March 31 that the new rules cutting tailpipe emissions by 30 percent by 2016 would save “1.8 billion barrels of oil. And that’s like taking 58 million cars off the road for an entire year.”
The following day, EPA and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration unveiled their joint rule — and said its impact will be like actually taking 50 million vehicles off the roads for a year.
