I stumbled upon this 1970 Mercury Montego for sale in the pit lane at the Coronado Speed Fest. At first glance it appears to be a genuine barn find vintage stock car, but under closer inspection the stock interior and a crafty note on the dash reveals this is just a standard Montego with race decals and paint. Apparently it was built back in the day by none other than the Woods brothers to be used as a promotional tool for Purolator. Click on the photo’s for high resolution view.
The Purerator stockcar decals was most likely applied back when the car was showroom new.
It looks as if the seller may be willing to negotiate.
Crafty.
The door is worn where you rest your arm on the door, how cool is that?
This car is not the real deal, I still like it though as I’m a sucker for vintage race car decals. It has an honest authentic decaled patina that can’t be bought or duplicated, all it needs is some period stock car wheels and it’s good to go as is.
