When was the last time you seen a 1959 Lloyd Alexander TS for sale? Never, right? Surprisingly, this yellow German micro machine is available for the rock bottom price of $500. Find it here on Craigslist. Very little information is given by the seller other than “THE ENGINE WILL RUN WITH SOME TINKERING” and “THIS CAR IS NOT DRIVABLE UNTIL IT IS RESTORED”.
Luckily the internet tells all, and it says the TS trim is the sport model with the overhead cam two cylinder putting out 25hp and a top speed of 66 mph, compared to the standard 19 hp and a 62 mph top speed. Also it’s FWD, was equipped with a four speed synchromesh transmission, got 43 MPG and the car weighs in at a feathery 1200 lbs. I even found a great photograph of an Alexander participating in a 50’s German rally.

If this car has been in California most of its life, the sheet metal and frame should be pretty solid. Personally, I’d leave as it is, maybe paint the hood Semigloss black to match the wheels, sort out the mechanicals and drive it. You can’t beat the price.

You need a magnifying glass to see the engine!
25hp? The only safe place to drive this thing would be in a bike lane.
I’d be tempted to buy this car if I didn’t have a massive project using my garage.

IS THE LOYD STILL FOR SALE? IF SO WHERE IS IT.
The Loyd was posted on the San Diego craigslist for months last year. I’m not sure what happened to it.
Hey there,
Just wondering if this car is for sale still as I am looking in restoring one with my dad as this is the first car he ever owned and would be grat project.
Thanks
I drove a sedan & a station wagon Lloyd in high school. The wagon was this color yellow. I never heard of a 4 forward gears on the column so it was so fun and original!!
